The Phoenix Film Critics Society is deeply saddened at the passing on of its co-founder, Roger Tennis,  at the age of 73. Despite his mild, modest manner, Roger had a  remarkably distinguished career. A native of New York state, he worked  as cameraman on The Ed Sullivan Show at the beginning of his career, and  later for public television for many years, editing such shows as “The  Best of ‘Are You Being Served?’” and the Beatles documentary “Eight Arms  to Hold You.”

Roger later created, produced and wrote the long-running nationally syndicated review series CLIPS.  In addition to PFCS, Roger was a longtime voting member of the  Broadcast Film Critics Association, the group behind the Critic’s Choice  Awards.

Aside from his career bona fides, Roger was one of the more  knowledgeable film buffs around, and one of the sweetest guys. In a  field not always known for professional generosity, he wanted all  critics to do well, and he relished the company and camaraderie of the  screening as much as any critic ever has. RIP good friend; our heart  goes out to your wife Janet, and all your family and many friends.
